For the final installment of SFDFF’s 2021 Encore Shorts, we are thrilled to share a version of our Co-Laboratory film Into the Neural Forest. Originally created as a virtual reality film, this new 2D release features an accompanying narration from neuroscientist Dr. Adam Gazzaley.
Into the Neural Forest is an intimate encounter putting you inside a choreographic model of a brain to witness the birth of an idea. The dance is based on actual brain recordings and the film has been presented as a VR experience and on a holographic display. This work poses the question, “What does creativity look like? Not the art or the artist, but the activity in the mind that generates creative work?” Capacitor’s eight dancers function as neurons, accompanying the viewer through the neural forest and demonstrating the neurochemical components of the evolution of an idea.
