Antarctica: The First Dance

About the Film

“Antarctica: The First Dance” was the first-ever dance film on the world’s last great wilderness, Antarctica. Directed by award-winning choreographer Corey Baker, it celebrates the awe-inspiring landscapes of its namesake and draws inspiration from the austere beauty and fragility of ice structures.

Performed by Madeleine Graham, star of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the film draws attention to the climate change crisis and was first released on Earth Day 2018. It was commissioned by Random Acts for Channel 4 and The Space, and supported by Antarctica New Zealand. “Antarctica: The First Dance” appeared at the 2018 San Francisco Dance Film Festival.

“It’s an immense privilege and mind-blowing experience to create and film a dance on Antarctica that I hope will bring people a little closer to understanding this unfathomable place.” —Corey Baker
