Encore Shorts: Able

About the Film

This month’s Encore Shorts film, Able, offers powerful portraits of members of ILL-Abilities: a breakdance group representing the differently-abled community. With a mantra of “no excuses, no limits”, the dancers transcend their physical limitations through extraordinary, gravity-defying movements. The filmmaker, LA-based artist Jacob Jonas, oscillates from wide shots to close-up details, deftly carrying viewers in and out of the choreography while softening the industrial setting.

Able was presented at the 2018 San Francisco Dance Film Festival where it was awarded the Audience Favorites Award for Best Screendance Under 10 Minutes. It features ILL-Abilities members Luca “LazyLegz” Patuelli, Jacob “Kujo” Lyons, Redouan “Redo” Ait Chitt, Sergio David “Checho” Miranda Carvajal, and Samuel Henrique “Samuka” Da Silveira Lima.
