Encore Shorts: Cold Storage

About the Film

Summer may be heating up, but this month’s Encore Shorts film drops the temperature as it plunges audiences into an arctic landscape. Cold Storage is a short dance film that pays homage to the virtuosic physical performances and melancholy comedy of the classic silent screen. As a lonely ice fisherman discovers his frozen prehistoric soul brother in the ice, multiple levels of time and reality blend into a cinematic and kinetic exploration of alienation, dependency, and friendship.

Cold Storage appeared at the 2017 San Francisco Dance Film Festival where it was instantly an audience favorite. From 2017 to 2019, it was the most widely screened Finnish short film of any genre at festivals worldwide. To date, it has received over 40 awards and over 300 festival selections.

From the Director:

Film still from "Cold Storage". On an icy arctic landscape, a man wearing warm clothing stands looking at the camera. He is holding the legs of another man who is upside-down, head on the ice, who appears frozen and dressed in warm caveman-like clothing.
