“Memory As Missionary Position” is a striking screendance film that weaves Pasifika movement and Kānaka ʻŌiwi poetry into a deeply embodied reflection on land, love, and liberation. Narrated by poet Noʻukahauʻoli Revilla, the film follows a dancer traversing the physical ʻāina (land) and a dark, internal space shaped by cultural memory. Through movement, she reclaims pleasure, connection, and power beyond colonial frameworks. With a voice rooted in reverence and resistance, the film offers a layered exploration of Indigenous embodiment as a form of sovereignty.
