Dance Film SF’s 2019 Co-Laboratory film, Into the Neural Forest, is an intimate encounter putting you inside a choreographic model of a brain to witness the birth of an idea. The dance is based on actual brain recordings and will be presented both in VR and on a holographic display.
Based on Jodi Lomask’s 2014 performance, Synaptic Motion – a multi-sensory dance experience informed by brain scans capturing the act of choreography. This work posed the question, “What does creativity look like? Not the art or the artist, but the activity in the mind that generates creative work?” Into the Neural Forest continues what Synaptic Motion started. Capacitor’s eight dancers function as neurons, accompanying the viewer through the neural forest and demonstrating the neurochemical components of the evolution of an idea.
