Shin-mi, a popular and accomplished dancer, gets a call from the Military Manpower Administration, to attend the Military Service Examination. Even though Shin-mi is female and has been called upon in error, she bravely steps forward to confront a bureaucratic nightmare in which she is met with intolerance and ignorance. Through it all Shin-mi remains poised and elegant as ever. An examination of trauma, transphobia, and the transformative power of artistry, God’s Daughter Dances is a moving portrait of defending one’s sovereignty at all costs.
